My Phone Photography Tribute
I took 175+ photos with my cell phone to capture the memories of my trip to Maui, six years ago. I felt so much joy being there, I tried to capture every moment, from basking in the healing essence of Lahaina’s beaches, to me chasing rainbows and waterfalls on the Road to Hana. I look at the photos now, and I am transported back to that time.
Here are 7 reasons why Maui is one of the most fascinating places I have experienced.

2. Lahaina Sunsets
The breathtaking sunsets, painted the sky with its vibrant hues. The blend of warm colors against the tranquil backdrop of the ocean left me in awe. GOD is the world’s Greatest Artist and I had the honor of being in His presence.

2. Blissful Beaches
As often as I wanted to, I immersed myself in the pristine waters and just let the waves wash over me. I relished the warmth of the golden sand between my toes. I enjoyed the sight and sound of the ocean for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I never got full…

3. Majestic Mountains
The mountains of Maui, stood tall and proud with their lush greenery and rugged peaks. They exemplified the island’s captivating landscapes.

4. 🌈Touching Rainbows
My trip to Maui was a time for respite. My battle with RA had intensified and I was looking for any sign that things were going to get better. When I arrived on the island, I was amazed by the ultra vivid rainbows. It was like I could just reach out and grab faith, hope, and new beginnings. The giant, colorful arcs in the sky represented promises of a brighter future. Stormy beginnings can produce beautiful endings.

5. History of Kings and Kingdoms
This past week, when I heard about the wildfires in Lahaina, I delved into the rich history and culture of Maui. In that search, I learned about the island’s significance as the ancestral land of the Polynesians and its transformation from independent kingdoms to an internationally recognized and united kingdom.
6. ✨️👑Queen Liliuokalani
Maui is more than just a tourist attraction. It is a place rich with history and culture. Polynesians from the Marquesas Islands migrated to Hawaii 1600 years ago. The islands was home to many independent kingdoms and was ruled by its own monarchy for many generations. Hawaii became a unified, internationally recognized kingdom in 1810, in efforts to remain independent as other nations began to “discover” the land. Lahaina was made the capital of the Kingdom. Annexationists had been working towards a United States takeover of Hawaii. In 1887, King Kalākaua was pressured to sign a new constitution that made the monarchy powerless to the US pressure. After the King died, his sister, Liliuokalani became Queen. She tried to establish a stronger monarchy but the United States under the leadership of Samuel Dole deposed her in 1893. The planters’ coup was to remove the threat of tariffs being imposed on their sugar crops. Queen Lili’uokalani was the last sovereign of Hawaii. She was admired for her resistance to the US businessmen who ended her reign and to the United States’ annexation of Hawaii. She continued to advocate for the benefit of her people after the US takeover and until her death.

7. I ❤️ ☕️.
The thriving agriculture , comes from the cultivation of sugarcane and pineapples to the growth of exports like papayas, macadamia nuts, and coffee. The island’s fertile soil and tropical climate contributes to its vibrant flora.

✨️🙏🏿 I pray these photographs serve as a reminder of the preciousness of our Earth and the urgency to protect it. As we face the devastating effects of climate change. According to the National Weather Service , the fires were fueled by a mix of dry vegetation, strong winds, and low humidity. Scientists attribute the dryness to a 90% decrease in rainfall over years, which have created drought conditions. Indigenous activist say the fires are the result of climate change fueled by the exploitation of the land and natural resources. Climate activists worldwide are urging political leaders and citizens to take immediate action to combat global heating as it is getting worse.
