Wax therapy: My first-hand experience

May is Arthritis Awareness Month.

My hands, are often the most consistently painful and annoying part of living with Rheumatoid Arthritis. When I flare in my hands, my wrists, fingers get hot, swollen and stiff. I can’t make a fist. It’s hard to grasp small things, lift heavy things, and do even daily activities we usually take for granted like brushing my teeth or buttoning a shirt for example. I have been in physical therapy for my hands multiple times. In addition to specific exercises and stretches, wax therapy was always a part of my treatment.

Paraffin wax is used as a moist heat therapy that helps loosen up stiff joints by increasing blood flow and relaxing the muscles. The result is less pain. The wax bath can be used for your feet, too.

A cosmetic bonus is the heated wax also helps trap in moisture by opening pores, leaving hands feeling softer and smoother. Some manicurists use them in their spa packages.💅

Being a practical person, I figured why not have one of these at home?🤷🏿‍♀️So, I put it on my wish list and got as it gift. My kit also came with extra wax blocks. I enjoy pampering my hands and myself on my home spa days. With my scented candle burning and favorite music playlist, It’s a gift that’s still giving. 💜🎁💜
